Re-election of Associate Representative for 2005/6We received just one response to the call for Associate Representative nominations for the 2005/6 term. I am therefore glad to welcome Julian King onto the committee for another year. This year his manifesto is: "To continue doing what I have been doing. Sniping from the back, bitching, and generally griping." Welcome back Julian!

CompSoc have (plans for) backup! If you aren't aware CompSoc have not had a "proper" backup strategy in ages, simply put there is too much data and not enough space to back it up to. For the past 6, or so, months backups have been done simply by taking a copy of the data to a second disk, and while far from ideal it was the only financially feasible plan for backing up 100+ GB of stuff. Last night the situation changed, one of our members donated a tape library with a capacity of about 4TB, more than enough for us.

CompSoc AGM 2006The Annual General Meeting for 2006/7 will be held this coming Saturday (November 18) at 1PM in Kro bar, opposite the Students' Union. The official purpose of this meeting is to decide on a new committee to run the society for the coming year. Once this is sorted we'll be having a few drinks, something to eat and most likely a trip to the cinema in the evening.
New CompSoc websiteWelcome to the new CompSoc website! Running a modified version of the popular Drupal CMS we have a raft of new features, including an admin blog for you to keep updated on what's going on behind the scenes, forums and RSS feeds for almost every section of the website. We hope the forums will provide an alternative to our discussion mailing list and in the future plan to introduce an online voting system to co-exist with our current email solution.
